Overview

8 days, 8 places, one vehicle and one guide

Eight days is the shortest trip that still lets Sri Lanka unfold at a human pace. This is our most requested itinerary for first-time visitors from the UK and Europe, built around a single private vehicle and driver-guide who stays with you from arrival to departure. You climb Sigiriya before the heat, ride the Kandy-Ella railway on the section that actually matters, track leopards in Yala at first light, and finish on the ramparts of Galle Fort.

Questions

About this tour

Yes for a first visit. Sri Lanka is roughly the size of Ireland, and this route covers the four regions most people come for. Driving days are kept to three to four hours with stops. If you want beach time as well, add three nights and we will extend the itinerary rather than compress it.

About 1,200 steps, taking most people 60 to 90 minutes up. The steps are steady rather than steep, with handrails and shaded landings. If you would rather not climb, Pidurangala Rock opposite is shorter, or your guide can arrange a garden-and-museum visit instead.

We reserve observation-class seats as soon as bookings open, 30 days before travel. If reserved seats sell out we hold second-class tickets and your guide boards early to secure window seats.

December to April is driest on the west and south coasts. May to September suits the east. Because the route crosses the island, it runs comfortably year round, we simply adjust the order of nights to follow the better weather.

A 20% deposit confirms the booking and the balance is due 21 days before arrival, or on arrival in cash if you prefer. We accept bank transfer, Wise and card payments in GBP, USD, EUR and AUD.
